arista long plumose (short microtrichia are present only in B. steini); fronto-orbital plate usually with dense hairs outside frontal row; antenna at most as long as height of gena; proepisternum with setulae; scutellum usually without lateral marginal setae; fore tarsus usually not much longer than head height, if much longer (B. lata) then parafacial setulose at least on upper half, basicosta yellow and abdominal tergite 3 with an irregular row of 6-10 marginal setae; mid-dorsal depression of abdominal syntergite 1+2 absent only in B. lata; abdominal tergites more or less fused in B. lata
